Barbara Kirch

Barbara Ann Kirch (after marriage to Grudt ; born May 2, 1960 in Abington , Pennsylvania ) is a former rower from the United States . She was World Cup second in 1982 and World Cup third in 1987.

Athletic career

Barbara Kirch, who is 1.83 m tall, began rowing at the Vesper Boat Club in Philadelphia and then joined the University of Pennsylvania rowing team . At the 1982 World Championships in Lucerne , the four-man with helmsman with Kathryn Keeler , Carol Bower , Harriet Metcalf , Barbara Kirch and helmsman Valerie McClain-Ward came second behind the boat from the Soviet Union . At the 1984 Olympic Games in Los Angeles , Kirch and Charlene Towne competed in twos without a helmsman , and the two took fifth place.

Three years later, Anne Marden and Barbara Kirch competed in double sculls at the 1987 World Championships in Copenhagen and won the bronze medal behind the Bulgarians and Romanians . At the Olympic Games in Seoul in 1988 , Kirch again competed in two without a helmsman, this time with Mara Keggi , the two of whom took sixth place.

After her active career, Kirch became a rowing trainer. From 1996 to 1998 she supervised the juniors from the United States at international championships. In 2010 she became a member of the youth commission of the world rowing association FISA .
