Anne Marden

Anne Marden (after marriage to Grainger; born June 12, 1958 in Boston ) is a former American rower . She won the 1984 Olympic silver medal in quadruples and in 1988 the Olympic silver medal in singles .

Athletic career

The 1.70 m tall Marden finished fourth at the 1978 World Championships with the US eight , but then switched to scull rowing . At the 1979 World Championships , she rowed the double scull to sixth place, and in 1981 she reached eighth place in the single.

At the 1984 Olympic Games , Anne Marden returned to the US national team after a two-year break. The US double scull with Anne Marden, Lisa Rohde , Joan Lind , Virginia Gilder and helmsman Kelly Rickon won the second heat and received the silver medal in the final behind the Romanians and just ahead of the Danish boat.

At the 1985 World Championships , Cornelia Linse from the GDR won in a single . Marden won the bronze medal behind the Romanian Valeria Răcilă . After a fifth place in the single at the 1986 World Championships , Anne Marden competed at the 1987 World Championships with Barbara Kirch in a double scull and won the bronze medal behind the Bulgarians and Romanians. At the Olympic Games in Seoul in 1988 , Marden again competed in one. The preliminary heats in Seoul were won by Marden, Jutta Behrendt (GDR) and the reigning world champion Magdalena Georgiewa (Bulgaria). These three rowers then ultimately won the medals in the finals, Behrendt won ahead of Marden and Georgiewa.

From 1990 to 1992 Marden still competed in the Rowing World Cup , but could no longer place himself at the front at the World Championships. In 1992 she finished fourth in the final of the Olympic Games in Barcelona, one second behind the Canadian third-placed Silken Laumann .
