Magdalena Georgieva

Magdalena Stojanowa Georgiewa ( Bulgarian Магдалена Стоянова Георгиева ; born December 7, 1962 in Brestowiza , Rodopi , Plovdiv Oblast ) is a former Bulgarian rower . In 1987 she won the world title and in 1988 the Olympic bronze medal in singles .

Athletic career

The 1.74 m tall Magdalena Georgiewa from the Trakia sports club from Plovdiv rowed together with Violeta Ninowa in a double scull to the bronze medal at the 1985 World Championships in Hazewinkel . The following year Georgiewa competed in the single and received the silver medal behind Jutta Behrendt from the GDR at the World Championships in Nottingham . 1987 Georgiewa won the title in the single at the world championships in Copenhagen before Martina Schröter from the GDR.

For the 1988 Olympic Games in Seoul , the GDR registered Jutta Behrendt, who certainly won the regatta; behind the American Anne Marden , Magdalena Georgiewa received the bronze medal. At the 1989 World Championships in Bled Magdalena Georgiewa competed in two boat classes. She won with Pawlina Alexandrowa the bronze medal in the double sculls, both fought together with Galina Yahorowa and Krasimira Totschewa in quadruple sculls another bronze medal. At the World Championships in Tasmania in 1990 Georgiewa appeared again in both boat classes and took sixth place twice.
