Emma Twigg (born March 1, 1987 in Napier ) is a New Zealand rower . She was world champion in single in 2014 .

Career

Emma Twigg started rowing in 2001, in 2005 she won the Junior World Championships in single and finished fourth in the U23 World Championships . In 2006 she rowed in the New Zealand eighth , which won the B final at the 2006 World Rowing Championships and finished seventh. In 2007 Twigg returned to the single and won the U23 world championships, at the rowing world championships in 2006 she reached the A-final and placed sixth. In 2008 she won third place at the World Cups in Munich and Poznan, at the Olympic regatta in Beijing she missed the A final and finished ninth in the final accounts.

In 2009 she took second place behind the Czech Miroslava Knapková at the World Cups in Munich and Lucerne . At the World Championships in Poznan, Belarusian Ekaterina Karsten won ahead of Britons Katherine Grainger and Miroslava Knapková, and Twigg finished fourth, half a second behind the Czech. At the first World Cup regatta in 2010 in Bled, Karsten won ahead of Twigg, in Munich Twigg won the B final. At the home world championships on Lake Karapiro , Swede Frida Svensson won ahead of Ekaterina Karsten, Twigg won her first adult medal in third place. In 2011 Twigg took second place behind Ekaterina Karsten at the World Cup regatta in Hamburg, and Twigg celebrated her first World Cup victory in Lucerne. At the 2011 World Rowing Championships in Bled, Miroslava Knapková won ahead of Ekaterina Karsten, Twigg was third, two seconds behind Karsten. At the Olympic Games in London she finished fourth. A year later, at the 2013 World Rowing Championships in Chungju , she was second. Twigg won her first major title at the 2014 World Rowing Championships in Amsterdam, where she won the gold medal in single. In 2015 Emma Twigg took a break. In May 2016 she qualified in Lucerne to take part in the 2016 Olympic Games . At the Olympic Regatta, she finished fourth, missing the bronze medal by 25 hundredths of a second.

After a long break, Emma Twigg returned to the international regatta courses in 2019. She won the World Cup in Poznan and Rotterdam. In Linz at the 2019 World Championships , the Irish Sanita Pušpure won ahead of Emma Twigg and Kara Kohler from the United States.
