Maria Brandin

Maria Helene Brandin (born September 4, 1963 in Kungälv ) is a former Swedish rower .

Brandin was in the finals of the World Rowing Championships for the first time in 1987: together with Carina Gustavsson she finished sixth in the double scull. The following year the two eighth were at the Olympic Games in Seoul . In 1989 Brandin switched to the single and immediately finished sixth at the World Championships in Bled , a year later she was fifth in Tasmania . In 1991 Brandin won her first World Cup regatta on Lake Piediluco, and at the 1991 World Championships in Vienna she finished fifth, as in the previous year. She repeated this place at the 1992 Olympic Games in Barcelona .

In 1993 Brandin won two World Cup regattas in Tampere and Henley, and came fourth at the World Championships in Račice u Štětí . After five years with a final position at the season highlight, Brandin could only qualify for the B-final at the 1994 World Championships in Indianapolis, which she then won. 1995 was Brandin's best season: after World Cup victories in Paris and Henley, she also won the World Championships in Tampere . The following year, she just missed a medal in fourth at the Atlanta Olympics .

At the 1997 World Championships on Lac d'Aiguebelette , Brandin won her second international medal when she won the bronze medal behind Belarusian Ekaterina Chodotowitsch and Danish Trine Hansen . The following year she also won bronze in Cologne behind the Russian Irina Fedotowa and the German Katrin Rutschow . After a 15th place at the 1999 World Championships and eleventh place at her fourth Olympic participation , Maria Brandin ended her career with 12th place at the 2001 World Rowing Championships .
