Sanita Pušpure (born December 21, 1981 in Riga ) is an Irish rower who started for Latvia until 2003 .

Sanita Pušpure started rowing in 1996. At the U23 World Championships in 2002, she finished fourth in the Latvian double scull . In 2003, she won in one bronze behind the German Julia Heitmann and the Swede Frida Svensson .

When her husband started working as a technician at Dublin Airport , the couple moved to Ireland, where their two children were born in the years that followed. In Dublin, Sanita Pušpure joined the Old Collegians Boat Club . From 2010 she rowed in the Rowing World Cup for Ireland, and since 2011, after acquiring Irish citizenship, she has also been eligible to compete in international championships for Ireland.

According to a twelfth place in the double sculls at the 2011 World Championships to Sanita Pušpure 2,012 skilled in Lucerne in one as the only Irish rower for the 2012 Olympics . At the Olympic regatta in Eton, she took 13th place as the winner of the C final.

Sanita Pušpure won her first medal for Ireland in 2014 when she won bronze in singles at the European Championships behind the Czech Miroslava Knapková and the Dutch Chantal Achterberg . At the 2014 World Championships , she reached fourth place. In 2015 she finished fifth at the European Championships and missed direct Olympic qualification with eleventh place at the 2015 World Championships . In 2016 she won the bronze medal at the European Championships in Brandenburg an der Havel behind Magdalena Lobnig from Austria and Elza Gulbe from Latvia . At the last Olympic qualification in Lucerne, 1.81 m tall Sanita Pušpure qualified for the Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro in May 2016 . In contrast to 2012, the Irish team for 2016 does not only consist of one rowing woman, as both lightweight double sculls were able to qualify. At the regatta in Rio de Janeiro, like four years before, she won the C final.

In 2017 Pušpure reached fourth place at the World Championships in Sarasota. In 2018 in Plovdiv , she won the title by over five seconds over Swiss Jeannine Gmelin . Pušpure also won ahead of Gmelin at the 2019 European Championships in Lucerne. In Linz at the 2019 World Championships , Pušpure won ahead of New Zealander Emma Twigg and Kara Kohler from the United States.
