Magdalena Lobnig (born July 19, 1990 in Sankt Veit an der Glan ) is an Austrian rower . She won the European title in One 2016.

Career

The rower from the rowing club of VST Völkermarkt began rowing in 2004.

In 2006 she won the bronze medal in the double scull at the Junior World Championships , followed in 2007 by fifth place with the double scull and at the Junior World Championships in 2008 silver with Lisa Farthofer in the double scull . At the European Championships in 2008 , she finished fifth with the double foursome.

In 2009 she appeared at the U23 World Championships in double sculls and reached fifth place. In this age group followed in 2010 the ninth place with the double quad and 2011 bronze with the double scull together with Lisa Farthofer, in 2012 Lobnig and Farthofer won the U23 world championship. At the European Championships in 2012 , the Austrian double scull with Katharina Lobnig , Michaela Taupe-Traer , Magdalena Lobnig and Lisa Farthofer came in fifth.

In 2013 Magdalena Lobnig switched to the single and won silver at the European Championships behind the Czech Miroslava Knapková . In the same year she took fourth place at the world championships .

In 2014 came fourth place at the European championships and fifth place at the world championships . The following year Magdalena Lobnig qualified for the 2016 Olympic Games with ninth place at the 2015 World Championships . At the start of the Olympic season, Lobnig won the title at the European Championships in Brandenburg an der Havel on May 8, 2016 . At the 2016 Olympic Games , Lobnig reached the A-final and finished sixth.

In the post-Olympic season 2017, Lobnig won the World Cup in Poznan and took third place in Belgrade and Lucerne. At the end of the season she won the bronze medal at the World Championships in Sarasota behind the Swiss Jeannine Gmelin and the British Victoria Thornley . At the European Rowing Championships in Glasgow in 2018 , Lobnig took second place behind Jeannine Gmelin. A month and a half later, Lobnig won bronze at the World Championships in Plovdiv behind the Irish rider Sanita Pušpure and Jeannine Gmelin .

The 1.80 m tall rower was trained by Kurt Traer and currently by Robert Sens . By 2015 she had already won 15 national championship titles, with four titles in 2015 alone.
