Valeria Răcilă , née Valeria Roşca , today Valeria van Groningen (born June 2, 1957 in Stulpicani , Suceava County ) is a former Romanian rower . She won two Olympic medals.

Under her maiden name Valeria Roşca, she rowed her first international medal at the 1979 World Cup in Bled. Together with Olga Homeghi she won bronze in the double scull behind Cornelia Linse and Heidi Westphal from the GDR as well as Swetla Ozetowa and Sdrawka Jordanowa from Bulgaria. At the 1980 Olympic Games in Moscow, the Soviet rowers Jelena Chlopzewa and Larissa Popowa won in front of lens and Westphal, Homeghi and Roşca received bronze in front of the Bulgarian defending champions.

In 1981 Valeria Roşca married and then started as Valeria Răcilă.

In the 1982 World Cup on Rotsee near Lucerne Valeria Răcilă won in one silver medal behind Irina Fetissowa from the Soviet Union. In 1984 Romania was the only Eastern Bloc state to take part in the Olympic Games in Los Angeles. Romania won five out of six possible gold medals in women's rowing, with the boat from the United States winning ahead of the Romanians in eighth. In the one, Valeria Răcilă had three seconds ahead of second-placed American Charlotte Geer . 1985 Valeria Răcilă won her last international medal when she received silver behind Cornelia Linse at the World Championships in Hazewinkel, Netherlands. She has been married to the Dutch rower Steven van Groningen since 1986 . She is now chair of the Bucharest Running Club and is busy organizing the 2010 Bucharest Marathon .
