Lauren Butterfly (born August 3, 1988 in Voorhees Township , New Jersey ) is an American rower and three-time world champion in eight .

Butterfly began rowing in Moorestown in 2003. She graduated from Colgate University in 2010 and lives and trains in Princeton , New Jersey.

She made her international debut in the US eight with a win at the Rowing World Cup 2013 in Lucerne. At the 2013 World Championships in Chungju , the US eight won the title. In 2014, Lauren Schmetterling again won a World Cup regatta on the Lac d'Aiguebelette in eighth place . At the same event, she finished sixth in a two-man team with Amanda Polk , making it only fourth-best US two-man. At the 2014 World Championships in Amsterdam , the US eight won ahead of Canada and China. In 2015, the US eight won the World Cup regatta in Varese, and the four-man without helmsman in the line-up of Grace Luczak , Lauren Schmetterling, Emily Regan and Olivia Coffey also won the same event . At the 2015 World Championships on Lac d'Aiguebelette, the eighth continued his winning streak at World Championships and Olympic Games, which has been going on since 2006, and won the title in front of the boats from New Zealand and Canada.
