Kristen Thorsness

Kristen Joy Thorsness (born March 10, 1960 in Anchorage ) is a former American rower .

The 1.75 m tall Kristen Thorsness from the Pioneer Valley Rowing Association won the silver medal behind the large Soviet boat at the 1982 World Championships with the US eight . The following year, sat with Kristine Norelius , Shyril O'Steen , Janet Harville and Kristen Thorness four rowers from the previous year in the US eighth, the again won silver behind the Soviet eighth. At the Olympic Games in 1984 , the Soviet women world champions were absent, as were the world championship thirds from the GDR because of the Olympic boycott . The US eight with Shyril O'Steen, Harriet Metcalf , Carol Bower , Carolyn Graves , Jeanne Flanagan , Kristine Norelius, Kristen Thorsness, Kathryn Keeler and taxwoman Betsy Beard won ahead of the Romanians and the Dutch women.

After a fourth place at the 1986 World Championships , the US eighth won the silver medal again in 1987 in Copenhagen , behind the Romanian boat but ahead of the Soviet eighth, whose winning streak broke down after seven consecutive world championships. In the US eighth in 1987, Thorsness, Metcalf and helmsman Betsy Beard were still three Olympic champions from 1984.
