Anja Pyritz (born August 31, 1970 in Kühlungsborn ) is a former German rower who was eighth world champion in 2003 .

Career

Anja Pyritz started her career together with her twin sister Dana Pyritz at SC Berlin, later both moved to Saarbrücken. Anja's career developed much more slowly than that of her sister. When Anja Pyritz became German champion for the first time with eighth place in 1995, her sister had already won a world title and an Olympic bronze medal in this boat class; Anja Pyritz was fifth in the world championship in 1993 and fourth in a four in 1994, and in 1995 she finished fourth in the world championship with eight.

At the 1996 Olympic Games in Atlanta, the sisters sat together in the eighth position, but the boat only reached the B final and took eighth place in the final bill. The two twins won the German championship eighth in 1997 and 1998, but it wasn't until 2001 that they won an international medal again. At the World Championships in Lucerne, the German eighth won the bronze medal with the Pyritz sisters, and the eighth repeated this medal success in Seville in 2002. In 2003, nine years after her sister, Anja Pyritz won the world championship title at the world championships in Milan with eighth place. In the following year, the German eighth finished fifth with Anja Pyritz at the Olympic Games in Athens .
