Georgeta Andrunache b. Damian (born April 14, 1976 in Dracşani , Botoşani district ) is a Romanian rower and is one of the most successful athletes in her discipline with 5 Olympic gold medals.
Career
She started rowing at the age of 13. She studied physics and sports at the George Bacovia Bacau University . Your home club is CS Dinamo Bucharest . She is trained by Nicolae Gioga and has been married since 2006.
On September 26, 2000, she won two gold medals at the 2000 Summer Olympics in Sydney . With her partner at the time, Doina Ignat , she won in a pair without a helmsman in front of a team from Australia and the USA. In the premier class, the eighth, her team could also win. She achieved success together with Doina Ignat, Viorica Susanu , Maria Magdalena Dumitrache , Veronica Cochela , Liliana Gafencu , Elena Georgescu , Elisabeta Lipă and Ioana Olteanu .
At the 2004 Summer Olympics in Athens , on August 21, 2004, she and her then partner in eighth, Viorica Susanu, again won the gold medals in two without helmswoman, and on August 22, also in eight.
The rain of medals was not over for her, however, in Beijing for the Olympic Games in 2008 she was able to win a gold medal with her rowing partner Viorica Susanu in a two-man without helmsman in front of the Chinese and Belarusians. After a three-year break, Andrunache returned to the regatta course in 2012 and together with Viorica Susanu took third place at the World Cup in Munich. At the Olympic Games in London, the two finished fifth.
Andrunache was awarded the Order of Loyalty to the rank of commander in 2000.
