Sika Barbulova

Sika Barbulowa (before marriage: Sika Kelbetschewa , Bulgarian Сийка Келбечева-Барбулова ; born December 1, 1951 in Plovdiv ) is a former Bulgarian rower . Together with Stojanka Gruitschewa , she was Olympic champion in 1976 in two without a helmsman .

Career

Sika Kelbetschewa took fifth place at the European Championships in 1973 with both the four-man with helmsman and the eighth . Together with Stojanka Gruitschewa she reached fourth place in the two-man category at the 1975 World Championships . At the Olympic premiere of women's rowing in Montreal in 1976, the two Bulgarians won in front of the boats from the GDR and the FRG, after finishing second behind the FRG two-man in the run-up.

After their marriage, Sika Barbulova took part in the 1980 Olympic Games in Moscow with Stojanka Kurbatova, who was also married . In total, only six boats competed in two without a helmsman, five of which were admitted to the final. The two from the GDR won ahead of the Polish women, the two Bulgarians won the bronze medal four years after their Olympic victory.

The 1.74 m tall Sika Barbulowa rowed for Trakia Plovdiv .
