Ellen Tomek

Ellen Tomek (born May 1, 1984 in Flint , Michigan ) is an American rower .

Tomek started rowing in 2002. In 2006 she finished fourth in the two-man category at the U23 World Championships without a helmsman . In 2007 she finished sixth with the American double scull at the World Championships in Munich . In the 2008 World Cup season, she competed with Megan Kalmoe in a double scull , and at the Olympic Games in Beijing , the two finished fifth. The following year, the two finished sixth at the 2009 World Championships .

Tomek only competed internationally again in 2013, in the World Cup she started in eighth and double sculls. At the World Championships , she finished seventh in double sculls with Meghan O'Leary , followed by sixth place in 2014 . Eleventh place at the 2015 World Championships meant qualifying for the 2016 Olympic Games. At the Olympic Regatta in Rio de Janeiro , Ellen Tomek and Meghan O'Leary reached the A-final and finished sixth. The two started together in 2017 and won the silver medal behind the New Zealand double scull at the World Championships in front of their home crowd in Sarasota . The following year, the Lithuanians won the World Championships in Plovdiv ahead of the New Zealanders, while Tomek and O'Leary received bronze.
