Gijsbert "Gijs" Theodor Vermeulen (born May 7, 1981 in Amsterdam ) is a former Dutch rower .

Career

The 1.89 m tall Vermeulen competed in the 1998 Junior World Championships in quadruples and finished seventh, and in 1999 he reached fourth place in the single . In 2001, Vermeulen started in a double scull at the U23 World Championships and finished sixth. In the same year he also made his debut in the Rowing World Cup . In 2002 came tenth place in double sculls at the U23 World Championships and eleventh place in double sculls at the world championships in the adult class . In 2003, Matthijs Vellenga and Gijs Vermeulen finished fourth in a double scull at the World Cup in Milan. At the World Championships , the two only reached the D final and finished in 19th place. In 2004, Vermeulen and Vellenga belonged to the Dutch eighth , who won the silver medal behind the US eighth at the Olympic Games in Athens .

In 2005 Geert Cirkel , Jan-Willem Gabriëls , Matthijs Vellenga and Gijs Vermeulen took second place behind the British four in the four without a helmsman at both the World Cup in Lucerne and the World Championships in Gifu .
