Anna Rose Watkins , born Anna Rose Bebington , (born February 13, 1983 in Leek , Staffordshire ) is a British rower . She won the Olympic gold medal in double sculls in 2012 .

Anna Bebington started rowing in 2001, she competes for the Leander Club in Henley-on-Thames . In 2004 she won the U23 World Championships in a four-man team without a helmsman . In 2005, she alternated between two without a helmsman and eight , at the World Championships she finished fifth with the British eight.

In 2006 Bebington switched to the sculling sculls , together with Annie Vernon she won the World Cup in Munich and took second place in Lucerne, at the rowing world championships in 2006 the two just missed the medal ranks with fourth place. In 2007 Vernon switched to the British quadruple scull . Bebington rowed together with Elise Laverick in double sculls, the two of them won the bronze medal behind the boats from China and New Zealand at the world championships . In 2008 Bebington and Laverick won the World Cup in Poznan, the New Zealanders won the Olympic regatta in Beijing , and the British won bronze behind the German double scull.

After their marriage, Anna Watkins reunited with Annie Vernon in 2009. At the World Championships , the two won silver behind the Polish double scull. In 2010 Watkins dared a double start in double sculls and double sculls at all World Cup regattas, she won five races and only finished second in double sculls once. At the World Championships she started only in double sculls and won the title together with Katherine Grainger . In 2011 Watkins and Grainger remained victorious in two World Cup races and the World Championships . The following year they won all three World Cup regattas and the final at the 2012 Olympic Games .
