David Crawshay

David Crawshay (born August 11, 1979 in Carlton , Victoria ) is a former Australian rower who won Olympic gold in a double scull in 2008.

Crawshay began rowing in 1994. At the 2004 Olympics Crawshay missed the Australian double foursome to make it into the final and finished in seventh place. In 2005 and 2007 he was Australian champion in singles . At the 2007 World Rowing Championships on the Oberschleißheim regatta course near Munich , he and Scott Brennan took second place in a double scull in the B final, but was twice third in the World Cup. In Beijing at the 2008 Olympic Games , Brennan and Crawshay surprisingly won the gold medal in the double scull.

In 2009 Crawshay switched to the double scull, together with Nick Hudson , Jared Bidwell and Daniel Noonan he won the silver medal at the 2009 World Rowing Championships . In the following year, the four-sculls in the line-up of Karsten Forsterling , David Crawshay, James McRae and Daniel Noonan won the bronze medal at the World Championships in New Zealand. In 2011 Crawshay returned to the quadruple scull and together with Scott Brennan finished fourth at the World Championships in Bled . At the 2012 Olympics , Brennan and Crawshay finished eighth. After an interruption in 2013 Crawshay continued his career in 2014 as a member of the Australian rowing eight on, in the world championships in 2014 of eight reached the seventh place. In 2015 Crawshay returned to the quad scull, together with Karsten Forsterling, Cameron Girdlestone and David Watts he won the silver medal at the world championships behind the German quad scull.
