Alexander Nikolayevich Berkutov

Alexander Nikolajewitsch Berkutow ( Russian Александр Николаевич Беркутов ; * May 21, 1933 , † on or before November 7, 2012 ) was a rower from the Soviet Union. He won two Olympic medals.

Career

At the Soviet championship in 1954 Berkutov, who started for Dynamo Moscow, won the championship title in one. The following year, Yuri Tjukalow won ahead of Berkutow and the young Vyacheslav Ivanov . After Ivanov became Soviet champion in 1956, Tjukalow and Berkutow avoided the double scull. They became European champions in 1956 and also won the 1956 Olympic Games in Melbourne.

Berkutow and Tjukalow were European champions from 1957 to 1959, where they won in 1959 in front of the Czechoslovak boat with Václav Kozák and Pavel Schmidt . At the 1960 Olympic Games, the Russians lost to Kozák and Schmidt. In 1961 at the European Championships Berkutow and Tjukalow won again, the Czechoslovaks came third.

After his career, Berkutow became a rowing coach.
