Guerrero and Capozzo 1952

Eduardo Guerrero (born March 4, 1928 in Salto , Buenos Aires Province , † August 17, 2015 in Buenos Aires ) was an Argentine rower .

In 1952, the Argentine federation did not trust Tranquilo Cappozzo to start singles due to age reasons, but offered him a start in a double scull with Eduardo Guerrero, who was ten years his junior. Cappozzo initially refused because Guerrero was too undisciplined, but ultimately gave in. The two Argentines won the 1952 Olympic Games in front of the boats from the Soviet Union and Uruguay. The gold medal for the two rowers was not only the only Olympic gold medal for Argentina at the 1952 Olympic Games and the only gold medal in rowing for Argentina at the Olympic Games, it was also the last Olympic victory for Argentinian athletes until 2004, the year after Cappozzo's death .
