William Varley
William "Bill" Michael Varley (born November 6, 1880 in New York City , † October 1968 there ) was an American rower .
William Varley started for the New York Atalanta Boat Club . In 1904 he rowed with John Mulcahy to the US title in double sculls . At the 1904 Olympic Games in St. Louis, the two won two boat lengths ahead of John Hoben and Jamie McLoughlin from the Long Island- based Ravenswood Boat Club . Mulcahy and Varley also competed in two without a helmsman on the same day , in this boat class the two took second place behind Robert Farnan and Joseph Ryan from the Seawanhaka Boat Club in Brooklyn, four boat lengths behind .
