David Watts (rower)

David Watts (born February 5, 1992 in Stockton-on-Tees , United Kingdom ) is an Australian rower .

Athletic career

Watts took fourth place at the Junior World Championships in 2008 with the four-man without a helmsman . At the Junior World Championships in 2010 he came third in a four-man team . At the 2010 Youth Olympic Games in Singapore, he and Matthew Cochran took third place in the two-man without helmsman . In 2012 Watts rowed in eighth , who won the bronze medal at the U23 World Championships . In 2013, the 1.91 m tall Watts debuted in the Rowing World Cup with a fifth place in the single at the regatta in Sydney. In 2014 he finished seventh in a double scull at the U23 World Championships.

2015 Watts won at the world championships on the Lac d'Aiguebelette its first medal in the adult area, when he and David Crawshay , Karsten Forsterling and Cameron Girdlestone behind the German boat in second place in the quadruple sculls reached. In 2016 Watts competed at the Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro with Christopher Morgan in a double scull and finished in seventh place.

In 2017 Watts finished 17th in a double scull with Luke Letcher at the World Championships in Sarasota . In 2018 he returned to the double fours. At the World Championships in Plovdiv won Caleb Antill , Campbell Watts , Alexander Purnell and David Watts the silver medal behind the Italians. A year later at the World Championships in Linz / Ottensheim , Hamish Playfair , Campbell Watts, Cameron Girdlestone and David Watts were fourth almost five seconds behind the third-placed Italians.

David Watts started at the Swan River Rowing Club in Perth, he later moved to the training center in Sydney and joined the Sydney Rowing Club .
