Buffy-Lynne Williams

Buffy-Lynne Williams (* 27. March 1977 in North York as Buffy-Lynne Alexander ) is a former Canadian rower . She won the Olympic bronze medal in eighth place in 2000 .

Athletic career

The 1.70 m tall Buffy-Lynne Alexander from the St. Catharines Rowing Club took fourth place at the 1995 Junior World Championships with the Canadian four-man without helmsman . She won her first adult medal at the 1997 World Championships when she finished second behind the Romanians with the Canadian eighth. At the 1998 World Championships, the Romanians won before the US eighth, the Canadians received the bronze medal. The 1999 World Championships took place in front of a home crowd in St. Catharines , the Canadian eighth with Buffy-Lynne Alexander again took third place behind the Romanians and the US rowers. The Canadian eighth also won the bronze medal at the 2000 Olympic Games , while silver went to the Dutch crew behind the Romanian boat.

After the Olympic Games in 2000, Buffy-Lynne married the Canadian rower Barney Williams and started under her new name after a year break. At the 2002 World Championships Buffy-Lynne Williams competed with Kubet Weston in a double scull , the two finished ninth. In 2003 Williams rowed back in eight, at the World Championships in Milan the Canadians won bronze behind the German eighth and the Romanians. For the 2004 Olympic Games , Williams and Darcy Marquardt switched to the two without helmsman ; three and a half seconds behind the third-placed Belarusians, the two Canadians finished fourth in the Athens final.

It wasn't until 2007 that Buffy-Lynne Williams started again internationally, at the 2007 World Championships she finished sixth with the Canadian eighth. In her third Olympic participation in Beijing in 2008 , she rowed eighth to fourth place.
