Deborah Kirsty "Debbie" Flood (born February 27, 1980 in Harrogate ) is a British rower . By 2011 she won three world championship titles and two Olympic silver medals.

Career

In the youth sector, Debbie Flood was active both as a judoka and as a rower until she eventually concentrated on rowing. In 1998 she won the bronze medal at the Junior World Championships in a double scull with Frances Houghton . In 1999 they won the Nations Cup , the forerunner of the U23 World Championships; In 2000, Debbie Flood won the Nations Cup in one . In 2001 Flood won her first World Cup regatta with Frances Houghton in Vienna, at the 2001 World Rowing Championships she took seventh place with Houghton in the double scull and was also in the sixth-placed British eighth . In 2002 she reached fourth place with Houghton at the World Championships, in 2003 she was fourth with Rebecca Romero . At the 2004 Olympic Games , the British double- scull won the silver medal behind the German boat with Alison Mowbray , Debbie Flood, Frances Houghton and Rebecca Romero.

In 2005 Flood formed a double scull with Elise Laverick , and they both finished fifth at the World Championships . In 2006 she returned to the double foursome, which initially took second place at the World Championships in Eton with Debbie Flood, Sarah Winckless , Frances Houghton and Katherine Grainger , but was subsequently awarded gold after a doping disqualification against the Russian foursome. At the 2007 World Championships defended Annie Vernon , Debbie Flood, Frances Houghton and Katherine Grainger title successfully. Debbie Flood has a degree in Physiology and Biochemistry from the University of Reading . She is involved in the Christians in Sport initiative .
