Shaun Keeling

Shaun Keeling (born January 21, 1987 in Krugersdorp ) is a South African rower .

Athletic career

Keeling started rowing in 2001. In 2004 he took part in the double sculls at the Junior World Championships and finished 19th, in 2005 he came 16th in the single . In 2006 he reached eighth place with the four without a helmsman at the U23 World Championships , in 2007 he took twelfth place in the single.

In 2008 Keeling formed a two-man without helmsman with Ramon di Clemente and rowed to third place in the World Cup in Poznan. At the Olympic Games in 2008 , the two achieved fifth place. In 2009, Keeling and di Clemente took sixth place at the World Championships . Two years later, Keeling rowed in a four without a helmsman to 15th place at the 2011 World Championships . In 2012, Lawrence Brittain and Shaun Keeling tried to qualify for the two-man Olympic competition in Lucerne, the South Africans took fourth place, only the first two boats were qualified for London.

In 2013 Brittain and Keeling took eighth place at the World Championships . In 2014 Vincent Breet moved up to Keeling in the two-man, the two won the bronze medal at the World Championships in Amsterdam behind the New Zealanders and the British. In 2015 David Hunt rowed with Keeling in two, with a seventh place at the world championships , the two achieved direct Olympic qualification for a South African two. For the Olympic Regatta were nominated in 2016 Shaun Keeling and Lawrence Brittain, the two won the silver medal with almost three seconds behind Hamish Bond and Eric Murray .
