Stephen "Steve" John Stewart (born March 27, 1978 in Sydney ) is a former Australian rower and Olympic medalist.

Athletic career

The 1.95 m tall Stephen Stewart from the UTS Haberfield Rowing Club in Sydney won silver at the Junior World Championships in 1995 with the four-man without a helmsman , and the following year he was seventh in the four-man with a helmsman . In 2000 he won the silver medal in the four without a helmsman at the (unofficial) U23 World Championships .

2001 Stephen Stewart moved into the Australian eighth and finished seventh at the World Championships . Two years later he was fourth in the four without a helmsman at the 2003 World Championships . At the 2004 Olympic Games , the Australian eight with Stefan Szczurowski , Stuart Reside , Stuart Welch , James Stewart , Geoffrey Stewart , Boden Hanson , Michael McKay , Stephen Stewart and helmsman Michael Toon won the bronze medal behind the boats from the United States and the Netherlands . With Stephen, James and Geoffrey Stewart, three brothers sat in the eight.

After a four-year break, Stephen Stewart returned to the Australian eight in 2008 and won the World Cup regatta in Munich. At the Olympic Games in Beijing , the Australian eighth finished sixth, with Stephen Stewart being the only eighth rower who had already won the bronze medal in 2004.
