James Stewart (rower)

James Alexander Stewart (born December 15, 1973 in Penrith ) is a former Australian rower and two-time Olympic medalist.

Athletic career

The 1.95 m tall James Stewart from the UTS Haberfield Rowing Club in Sydney won the silver medal in the two without a helmsman at the (unofficial) U23 World Championships in 1994, together with his twin brother Geoffrey Stewart , and in 1995 the two Australians won. In 1996 at the Olympic Games in Atlanta , they finished sixth with the Australian eighth . The following year, the Australian eighth won the bronze medal at the 1997 World Championships .

At the 1998 World Championships , Stewart finished fourth with the four-man without a helmsman . The following year, Ben Dodwell , Geoffrey Stewart, Boden Hanson and James Stewart won the silver medal at the 1999 World Championships behind the British foursome and ahead of the Italians. At the 2000 Olympic Games in Sydney, the British won ahead of the Italians, with Stewart, Dodwell, Stewart and Hanson taking bronze medals behind them. Four years later, Hanson and the Stewart twins competed with the Australian eighth at the Athens Olympics and won the Olympic bronze medal, with Stephen Stewart, the younger brother of James and Geoffrey serving as the eighth's batsman .
