Siniša Skelin

Siniša Skelin (born July 14, 1974 in Split ) is a former Croatian rower who won two medals in four Olympic competitions.

Athletic career

Skelin rowed eighth at the 1995 World Championships in Croatian and finished thirteenth. At the 1996 Olympic Games he placed seventh with the four without a helmsman as the winner of the B final. After he and Denis Boban were on the road in a two-man without a helmsman in 1997 , Skelin achieved his first World Cup victory in a four-man with a helmsman in 1998 . At the World Championships in Cologne , Denis Boban, Igor Boraska , Tihomir Franković , Siniša Skelin and helmsman Ratko Cvitanić won the silver medal behind the Australian boat. At the 1999 World Championships , the four rowers tried to qualify without their helmsman in the Olympic boat class four without a helmsman for the 2000 Olympic Games, which did not succeed with reaching the C-final.

In the 2000 season, the Croatian eighth won the first World Cup regatta. At the Olympic Games in Sydney, the British won ahead of the Australians, the Croatians with Igor Francetić , Tihomir Franković, Tomislav Smoljanović , Nikša Skelin , Siniša Skelin, Krešimir Čuljak , Igor Boraska, Branimir Vujević and helmsman Silvijo Petriško received the bronze medal. In 2002 the Skelin brothers switched to the two without a helmsman and took fourth, third and first place in a row in the World Cup. At the World Championships in Seville, the British won ahead of the South Africans and the Croatian brothers. The following year, the Skelins won silver at the World Championships in Milan behind the Australians and in front of the South Africans and also at the 2004 Olympic Games in Athens, the Australians won ahead of the Croats and the South Africans.

In 2005 the Skelin brothers won the first World Cup regatta and finished second in each of the other two races, at the World Championships in Gifu they reached the A-final, but came in sixth and last. In the following years, the brothers were able to achieve top positions in the World Cup, but did not reach the A-final at the season highlight, but were tenth at the 2007 World Championships and twelfth at the 2008 Olympic Games .

The 1.96 m tall Siniša Skelin rowed for HVK Gusar from his home town of Split.
