Costus ricus is a species ofthe Costaceae family . It is only found in Costa Rica.
features
Costus ricus is an herbaceous plant and reaches a height of up to 2 meters. The stiff upper side hairy dense, tightly under hand are haired up to bare sheets are at their periphery and along the central rib hairy wiry as tight as on the leaf sheath, and the petiole .
The ligules are unequal and bilobed. The cone-like, round to egg-shaped inflorescences are 4 to 7 centimeters long and 4 to 5 centimeters in diameter, while at maturity they are up to 12 centimeters long. The bracts are red to orange, sometimes bent back at the outer end.
The crown is densely hairy, the tubular labellum orange to red.
distribution
Costus ricus is endemic to the Osa Peninsula and surrounding regions of Costa Rica.
Systematics
The species was first described in 1997 by Paulus Johannes Maria Maas and his wife Hillegonda Maas-van de Kamer .
