Ligule

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Ligule (ligula)

As Ligule or Ligula refers to plants with leaf sheaths - especially in fresh and sedges  - an appendage at the junction of the vagina and Spreitenoberseite . It mostly appears as a membranous, colorless, translucent extension of the epidermis on the inside of the leaf sheath and represents an extension of the inner epidermis of the leaf sheath. It protects against injuries caused by friction of the stalk that moves back and forth in the wind.
