The Williston Lake is an artificial lake in British Columbia ( Canada ) that after the construction of the W.-A.-C.-Bennett Dam (formerly Portage Mountain Dam ) was created. It is the seventh largest reservoir in the world in terms of storage volume and the largest in British Columbia.

The reservoir is located in the Rocky Mountain Trench .
There are numerous provincial parks around the lake , such as the Muscovite Lakes Provinicial Park , the Omineca Provincial Park , the Ed Bird-Estella Provincial Park , the Butler Ridge Provincial Park or the Heather-Dina Provincial Park .
history
The dam was completed in 1968, which also meant the creation of the reservoir. In the planning phase, the lake was referred to as the Peace River Reservoir . However, it was later named after Ray Gillis Williston , a former Canadian Minister for Agriculture, Forestry and Water Management. It was reckoned that Williston Lake would reach its maximum storage capacity in 1971 or 1972.
fauna
Williston Lake is rich in a variety of fish. In it z. B. the rainbow trout , the lake trout , the sockeye salmon , the dolly varden trout , the pike , the bull trout or the herring vendace can be found.
