Bergsbyn is a district of Skellefteå in the Swedish province of Västerbottens län , in the historic province (landskap) Västerbotten .

location

Bergsbyn belongs to the municipality of Skellefteå and within this, since January 1, 2016, to the district of Skellefteå Sankt Olov, named after the Sankt Olav Church, the main church of the city of Skellefteå. It is located about 7 km south-east of the center of Skellefteå and about 100 km in a straight line north-northeast of the provincial capital of Umeå on the left bank of the river älv Skellefte , less than 10 km above its confluence with the Bothnian the Baltic Sea . On the right bank of the river opposite Bergsbyn is the smaller crime scene Södra Bergsbyn och Stackgrönn .

To the north, Bergsvik is bypassed by provincial road ( Länsväg ) 372, which leads from European route 4 in Skellefteå to Skelleftehamn on the Baltic coast. A road bridge crosses the Skellefte älv near the village. The Bastuträsk – Skelleftehamn railway line runs along the river bank and has not been used for passenger traffic since 1990; the earlier Bergsbyn stop was abandoned.

history

Bergsvik developed in the 20th century mainly as a residential suburb close to the economic centers of Skellefteå and Skelleftehamn.

Administratively, it belonged to the municipality of Skellefteå stad from the time it was founded. In 1952, a smaller part of the town of the municipality (municipalsamhälle) Skelleftestrand within the rural municipality (landskommun) Skellefteå was added, which as a whole, together with other surrounding rural communities, was back in 1967 in the municipality of Skellefteå. From this, today's community emerged in 1971.

Until 2010 Bergsbyn had the status of an independent crime scene with 1780 inhabitants at last, before it went up in the crime scene Skellefteå.

The football and ice hockey club Bergsbyns SK, founded in 1985, is based in Bergsbyn.

The village is one of the Swedish centers for disc golf ; This is where the Skellefteå Discgolf club has its area, where international competitions such as the Scandinavian Open 2015 have already taken place.
