Office building Annaburg

The office building Annaburg is a listed building and is located on the market in Annaburg in the district of Wittenberg in Saxony-Anhalt .

history

The building was erected in 1578 for the administration of the district of Electoral Saxony , which had existed since 1429. However, the construction was only necessary due to a fire in the previous building. The structure underwent structural changes at the end of the 17th century, in the middle of the 19th century and at the beginning of the 20th century. The office building was extensively restored in 1993 and 1994. Today, in addition to an exhibition on the history of the city of Annaburg, there is a library in the building.

description

Outbuildings

The half-timbered building with its massive ground floor has two wings facing the courtyard. The half-timbered structure of the upper floor is made of leaves and has painted friezes . In the roof on the market side there were originally three dwelling houses , which were replaced by a hipped roof as part of the renovation at the end of the 17th century. An originally existing passage in the building was replaced by a pillared loggia in the middle of the 19th century . This consists of four sandstone pillars on pedestals in relief . Presumably these were located in the former pleasure house in the palace gardens of Annaburg Palace and date from around 1580.

inner space

The interior of the building still has many elements from the 16th century. Worth mentioning here are the painted wooden beam ceiling, the vaulted former kitchen rooms and the door frames. The joists of the roof structure, which are covered with paper wallpaper, also date from the 16th century and were probably used here again after the Schweinitz Castle was demolished. A coffered ceiling dates from the 17th century. In the loggia there are two murals from the 19th century. At the entrance to the courtyard is the sandstone tombstone for the forester Martin Rohrwacher, who died in 1659 in the Annaburg Heath .
