Ramona Portwich

Ramona Portwich (born January 5, 1967 in Rostock ) is a former German canoeist and current canoe trainer .

Career

The canoe racing athlete won at the Olympic Games in Seoul in 1988 the gold medal in four-man kayak (with Birgit Schmidt , Anke Nothnagel and Heike Singer ) over 500 m for the GDR , at the Olympic Games in Barcelona in 1992 the silver medal in Kayak Four (with Birgit Fischer , Katrin Borchert and Anke von Seck ) over 500 m, and the gold medal in the two-man kayak (with Anke von Seck), and at the Olympic Games in Atlanta 1996 the gold medal in the four-man kayak (with Birgit Fischer , Manuela Mucke and Anett Schuck ) over 500 m and the silver medal in a two-person kayak (with Birgit Fischer ) over 500 m.

In addition to the Olympic successes, Ramona Portwich was world champion 13 times and is one of the most successful canoeists ever. For her Olympic victory in Seoul in 1988 she was awarded the Patriotic Order of Merit in Gold.

For her sporting success she received the Silver Laurel Leaf on June 23, 1993.

In her active career, she last competed for the Limmer Canoe Club in Hanover . She ended her career in 1997 and has been a trainer ever since.
