history

Origin of name and early history

The place was first mentioned in a document that must have been created between 780 and 802 as “Gremesdorf”. The final word of the place name is Grami , the personal name of the place founder. The place is a heap path village that was laid out in Carolingian times, which can still be seen today. The Gremsdorf mill was mentioned as early as 1326 when it was acquired by Wolfram Truchseß von Aurach and the brothers Heinrich and Hermann Truchsessen zu Nainsdorf.

Gremsdorf belonged to the Michelsberg monastery , which was a media of the Bamberg monastery.

At the end of the 18th century there were 32 properties in Gremsdorf. The high court was exercised by the Bamberg center of Höchstadt . The village and township government had the steward Gremsdorf held. The landlords were the bishopric Bamberg (Kastenamt Höchstadt: 1 Gütlein; Klosteramt Gremsdorf: Amtsmannhaus, Amtshof, rectory, schoolhouse, 1 mill, 1 tavern, 3 courtyards, 14 Sölden ), the Ebrach monastery (1 Sölde), the manor Neuhaus (1 Freiwirtshaus , 2 goodies). 2 houses, a forge and a shepherd's house were parish buildings.

In 1802 the place came to Bavaria . As part of the municipal edict, the Gremsdorf tax district was formed in 1808 , to which Buch , Krausenbechhofen and Poppenwind belonged. With the second community edict (1818), two rural communities were formed:

  • Book,
  • Gremsdorf with Krausenbechhofen and Poppenwind.

The administration and jurisdiction of the municipality of Gremsdorf was subordinate to the district court of Höchstadt and of the financial administration to the Rentamt Höchstadt . In the voluntary jurisdiction, 3 properties were subordinate to the Neuhaus Patrimonial Court (until 1848). In 1820 Uttstadt was incorporated, which was then given to the municipality of Aisch on September 9, 1854 . From 1862 Gremsdorf was administered by the district office of Höchstadt an der Aisch (renamed the district of Höchstadt an der Aisch in 1938 ) and continued to be administered by the Rent Office Höchstadt (1920–1929: Finanzamt Höchstadt , from 1929: Finanzamt Forchheim ). The jurisdiction remained with the district court of Höchstadt until 1879, 1880–1959 district court of Höchstadt , from 1959 district court of Forchheim . The municipality originally had an area of 8.928 km².

The Gremsdorfer Amtshaus, which housed the Hochstadt Regional Court until 1826, was sold by the state for 1500 guilders to the son of the last Michelsberg clerk, Johann Leonhard Rinecker, from whose descendants the Order of the Brothers of Mercy in 1895 for the establishment of a healing and acquired a nursing home. Around 280 residents are currently housed in the residential and nursing home.

Blazon : " Split of silver and blue, in front a left-facing red wing with an arm growing out of it, which holds a red bar cross, behind a half silver mill wheel at the gap."

The municipality of Gremsdorf has had a coat of arms since 1983. Blue-white-red municipal flag

Justification of the coat of arms: The wing with the arm growing out of it is the coat of arms of the Michelsberg monastery in Bamberg, which shaped the place as landlord and court lord.
