The geographic-statistical description of the Upper Main District is a lexicon that was published in 1827 by Karl Friedrich Hohn . The full title reads: “Geographical-statistical description of the Upper Main District. A contribution to closer knowledge of the fatherland ”.

The work consists of two parts (overall description of the Obermainkreis district, individual description of the administrative units), has a register (pp. VII – LIX) and a misprint correction (p. 356).

In the first part there is an overall description of the Obermainkreis (pp. 1–53), which is divided into 12 sections: § 1 Components of the district (pp. 1–5), § 2 Location, boundaries, size (pp. 5–6 ), § 3 Mountains (p. 6–8), § 4 Waters (p. 9–19), § 5 Lakes and ponds (p. 19), § 6 Climate (p. 20), § 7 Natural products (p. 20–32), § 9 [sic!] Trade (p. 32–37), § 10 residents (p. 37–38), § 11 religion (p. 38–43), § 12 administration with a list of the administrative units (Pp. 43–50), § 13 Bildungsanstalten (pp. 50–53).

In the second part (pp. 54–356) the individual administrative units are described in alphabetical order, with the immediate district cities of Bayreuth (pp. 54–57), Bamberg (pp. 57–59), Hof (pp. 59–60) first ) are dealt with, then the regional courts (pp. 60–334) and finally the power courts (pp . 334–356). The descriptions all have the same scheme: § 1 components, size, § 2 borders, location, climate, § 3 bodies of water, § 4 soil, § 5 natural products, § 6 trade, § 7 individual locations, the last part being the most extensive. The classification of place types used in the last part was probably adopted from the work Topo-geographical-statistical lexicon from the Kingdom of Bavaria , first published in 1819 : Einöde (1 house), hamlet (1–11) and village (12 and more); furthermore the place types market, town and parish village and church village . There is also information on the number of inhabitants, the church affiliation and, if necessary, brief comments on the economy and history of the respective place. The findings of § 7 were later incorporated into the Topo-Geographical-Statistical Lexicon of the Kingdom of Bavaria , which appeared in 1831/32 , while the other sections were largely ignored.

The information on the individual locations has been taken over completely unchanged from the topographical-alphabetical handbook published in 1820 about the cities, markets, villages, hamlets, mills and wastelands in the Upper Main District . The reference year of the statistical surveys is not given there, nor are all individual locations listed, this mainly applies to desert areas. This deficit is also reflected in this work.
