Topographical-alphabetical handbook about the cities, markets, villages, hamlets, mills and wastelands in the Upper Main District

The topographical-alphabetical handbook on the cities, markets, villages, hamlets, mills and wastelands in the Upper Main District is a directory that was published in 1820 by the royal auditor AH Hoenig. The full title reads: "Topographical-alphabetical handbook on the cities, markets, villages, hamlets, mills and wastelands in the Upper Main District, with several statistical messages". The compilation of the work was completed on October 26, 1819.

The work consists of two parts. The first part (pp. V – VII) lists all regional courts , sovereign courts and patrimonial courts of the Upper Main District with information on the total number of houses, fireplaces, families, residents, size and rural communities . This is followed by a list of abbreviations (p. VIII).

In the second part (pp. 1–144) the places of the Obermainkreis are listed in alphabetical order, each with information on the type of settlement , the number of inhabitants, the responsible tax district and district court and any comments. Wastes or hamlets do not always have their own entry, they are usually listed in the next larger town, sometimes they are not mentioned at all. Corrections can be found on p. 144.

The publisher does not provide any information on the key date of the statistical surveys. They coincide neither with the so-called Montgelas censuses (reference year: 1811/12) nor with the statistical annual reports of the Obermainkreis (reference year: 1818).

All information in this work has been adopted unchanged from the geographical-statistical description of the Upper Main District .
