The Retzatkreis of the Kingdom of Bavaria is a lexicon that was published in 1829 by Karl Friedrich Hohn . The full title reads: "The Retzatkreis of the Kingdom of Bavaria described geographically, statistically and historically." The work consists of two parts (overall description of the Rezatkreis, individual description of the administrative units), has a register (pp. 361–392) and a misprint correction ( P. 393ff.).

In the first part there is an overall description of the Rezatkreis (pp. 5-42), which is divided into 19 sections: § 1 Components of the Circle (pp. 5–6), § 2 History (pp. 6–8), § 3 Location, boundaries, size (p. 9), § 4: Mountains (p. 9–12), § 5 bodies of water (p. 13–15), § 6 lakes and ponds (p. 16), § 7 climate (p . 16), § 8 Natural Products (p. 17–22), § 9 Commercial (p. 22–27), § 10 Residents (p. 27–28), § 11 Religion (p. 28–30), § 12 Administration with listing of the administrative units (p. 30–36), § 13 Estates of the Kingdom (p. 36), § 14 District Administrator (p. 37–38), § 15 Educational Institutions (p. 38–40), § 16 Elective Cities des Kreises (pp. 40–41), Section 17 Taxes (p. 41), Section 18 Types of Communities (pp. 41–42), Section 19 Police Constitution (p. 43). The sections provide information on history (1, 2), administration (1, 12, 13, 14, 19), geography (3, 4, 5, 6, 7), economy (8, 9, 17), culture (10 , 11) and statistics (10, 16, 17, 18).

In the second part (pp. 43–360) the administrative units are individually described in alphabetical order, with the immediate district cities of Ansbach , Erlangen , Fürth and Nuremberg being dealt with first, then the regional courts and finally the lordship courts . The descriptions all have the same scheme: § 1 components, size, § 2 borders, location, climate, § 3 bodies of water, § 4 soil, § 5 natural products, § 6 trade, § 7 individual locations, the last part being the most extensive. The classification of place types used in the last part was taken from the work Topo-geographical-statistical Lexicon from the Kingdom of Bavaria , first published in 1819 : Einöde (1 house), Weiler (1–11) and Village (12 and more); furthermore the place types market, town and parish village and church village . There is also information on the number of residents, residential buildings, church affiliation, the distance to the next larger town and, if necessary, brief comments on the economy and history of the respective town. The date of the statistical surveys is unclear, but is often identical to that of the alphabetical index of all the towns [...] contained in the Rezatkreise , which was published in 1818. The findings of § 7 were later incorporated into the Topo-Geographical-Statistical Lexicon of the Kingdom of Bavaria , which appeared in 1831/32 , while the other sections were largely ignored.
