Kübelsbach Gorge

The Kübelsbach Gorge (sometimes also called Käswasserschlucht ) is a gorge west of the market town of Eckental and east of the town of Kalchreuth in the Central Franconian district of Erlangen-Höchstadt .

The Kübelsbach , which flows together with the Altbach as Geroldsbach into the Schwabach , has cut its stream bed into the layers of the former Black Jura Sea in a small wooded area between the Eckental district of Oberschöllenbach and the Kalchreuth district of Röckenhof . Wherever the flowing water could break through the harder layers, it cleared away the softer intermediate layers until it hit the next harder layer. As a result, numerous smaller waterfalls have formed there.

Most impressive is the appearance not far from the bridge over the Kübelsbach at the connection between Oberschöllenbach and Röckenhof, where a view of the imposing Rhätsandstein gorge opens up, which reveals the different layers of earth of the former Black Jura Sea.

The Kübelsbach Gorge is part of the Eckentaler Walk No. 1 (red dot), which was newly marked and mapped in 2018, as well as the 4th pleasure hike of the "Kalchreuther Wanderhimmels" under the title "Down into the depths of the Black Jura Sea".
