The Tesinotal ( Italian Valle del Tesino ) describes a valley in the east of Trentino . Due to its geomorphology, it is also known in Italian as the Tesino plateau (it. Altopiano del Tesino ) or as the Tesino basin (it. Conca del Tesino ) or just as Tesino.

geography

The Tesino is located in the Fiemme Valley Alps north of the Valsugana on the course of the Torrente Grigno . It resembles a cross with the Valle di Malène at the foot of the Cima d'Asta , through which the Grigno flows in a south-easterly direction and widens into a basin-like plateau at Pieve Tesino and Castello Tesino . With the two named places as well as with Cinte Tesino all three places of Tesino are located here, which at the same time form independent communities. This plateau, between 800 and 900 m high, lies at the intersection of the plutonite massif of the Cima d'Asta with the sedimentary mountains of the Valsugana to the south . In the subsequent lower part, the valley narrows again, takes on almost canyon-like features and finally ends at Grigno in the Valsugana.

On the Tesino plateau, the Passo della Forcella ( 910  m ) forms the western transition via Bieno to the Valsugana, while to the east the Valle Reneda descends to Lamon in the province of Belluno . In the northeast, the Tesino is connected to the Valle del Vanoi via the Passo Brocon ( 1615  m ) .

history

The first settlements in the area date from the Bronze Age . Due to the proximity to the Roman road Via Claudia Augusta , they were built around 50 BC. Settlements and castles in the area. Here the valley belonged to the Regio X Venetia et Histria (10th Region Veneto and Istria ) of the Regioni dell'Italia Augustea . Since 750 the parishes of the Tesino Valley have been under the Bishop of Feltre .
