Peter Frenette (born February 24, 1992 in Port Jefferson , Long Island , New York ) is a retired American ski jumper .

Career

Frenette, who has been ski jumping since he was six, was accepted into the national team in January 2009. After he was initially only active in the FIS Cup , he made his debut in the Ski Jumping Continental Cup on September 3, 2009 in Pyeongchang and was able to jump into the points with 27th place in his first competition in this series. After further Continental Cup appearances, where he jumped into the second round several times, he entered the FIS Cup in Lauscha and was able to jump into the top ten in the FIS Cup for the first time with places 2 and 4. At the 2010 Junior World Championships in Hinterzarten , he jumped to twelfth place.

Then, although he had never jumped in the World Cup before, he was surprisingly appointed to the team for the Olympic Winter Games in Vancouver . On the normal hill, he reached 41st place, tied with his compatriot Nicholas Alexander . On the large hill, he just barely missed the second round as 32nd. With the team, he finished eleventh and penultimate place.

In the summer of 2010 he finished 53th and 22nd at the Continental Cup in Lillehammer (Norway). In Oslo , he missed the second round in both competitions. A few days later, he took second place at the FIS Cup in Falun . The next day he took his first FIS Cup victory. That summer he was the only American to reach the second round in the Continental Cup. On January 9, 2011, he was able to climb the podium of a Continental Cup jumping for the first time in Sapporo, Japan, as second. He is currently the best American ski jumper. On January 16, 2011 - also in Sapporo - he achieved his first World Cup points with 18th place.

Frenette attended Saranac Lake High School in Saranac Lake through 2010 . Although he was admitted to the University of Denver , he turned it down in order to devote himself fully to ski jumping.

In July 2014, he announced that he would end his career immediately to study at the University of Denver.

Frenette took part in a total of 18 World Cup competitions and two Olympic Games.
