Career

Like other ski jumpers, Kaneko attended the private high school of the same name in Sapporo, which is associated with Nihon University .

Kaneko came to professional ski jumping late. He did his first international jumping, which was also his World Cup debut, on January 18, 1997 in Sapporo at the age of 20. In this first competition he already achieved his first World Cup points with 22nd place on the normal hill. He then won the bronze medal on the large hill at the Winter Universiade in Muju, South Korea . Two years later he repeated this result at the Winter Universiade in Poprad, Slovakia and won the team competition with the Japanese team. It was not until September 5, 2001 that he jumped another international competition. In jumping at the Summer Grand Prix 2001 he reached the 45th place on his home hill, the Ōkurayama hill . From January 2002 Kaneko jumped in the Continental Cup . On March 13, 2003, he was able to win his only Continental Cup competition in Yamagata on the Zaō hill .

In World Cup competitions in his home country he was regularly used in the national group, was able to qualify mostly, but did not achieve any top placements. It was not until February 6, 2005 that Sapporo was able to jump back to 17th place in the World Cup points.

On March 12, 2005, he completed his last Continental Cup competition. He jumped to 3rd place in Zakopane . On September 10, 2005, he jumped at the Summer Grand Prix in Hakuba . He then took a break from competition until 2008. On March 22, 2008 he withdrew from active sport together with Kazuki Nishishita and Sōta Okamura after participating in the 9th Itō-hai Season Final Ōkurayama Nighter Jump Taikai .
