At the Junior World Championships in 1995 in Gällivare , he won the bronze medal behind the teams from Germany and Austria in team jumping together with Kazuya Yoshioka , Suguru Miyazaki and Yūzō Ikeda . On January 20, 1996, he jumped his first World Cup competition on his home hill in Sapporo. He finished jumping in 46th place. After another unfortunate jump on the large hill in Sapporo, he took an international break from competition for five years. His first competition after returning to the World Cup on January 27, 2001 in Sapporo was just as unsuccessful with 40th place as the 1996 competitions. One day later, however, he reached 19th place on the same hill and thus his first World Cup Points. At the end of the 2000/01 season he was 67th in the overall World Cup ranking. From January 2002 Okamura started firmly in the Continental Cup and was only called up for jumping in Japan as part of the national group in the World Cup line-up. He managed to win World Cup points again in Hakuba in 2002 . So far it was his last World Cup points that he could achieve. Since 2002 Okamura has only been jumping at the Continental Cup races in Japan, as well as jumping in the FIS Cup or FIS races there . On March 22, 2008 he retired from active sport together with Yūsuke Kaneko and Kazuki Nishishita after participating in the 9th Itō-hai Season Final Ōkurayama Nighter Jump Taikai .
