Hans Wallner (born April 29, 1953 in Feistritz an der Gail in Carinthia ) is a former Austrian ski jumper .

Career

The jumping talent of the bilingual sports club Achomitz / Športno drustvo Zahomec was discovered by the club coach Franz Wiegele and the ÖSV coaches Bubi Bradl and Baldur Preiml . In 1969, Bubi Bradl brought the then 16-year-old Hans Wallner to the Austrian national team. It was Baldur Preiml who led Wallner & Co. to the top of the world and created a “red-white-red jumper wonder”. Wallner was one of the “Achomitz Eagles” with Karl Schnabl , Hans Millonig and Sepp Gratzer, who achieved excellent results in the 1970s. Wallner, Schnabl and Millonig defeated all other jumpers in the 23rd Four Hills Tournament (1974). At the 1976 Winter Olympics in Innsbruck , Wallner took 6th place on the large hill.

At the celebratory reception in his home community, there was a scandal from German national circles who wanted to disrupt the German- Slovenian-speaking celebration by whistling, heckling and switching off the microphone.

Austrian ski jumping wonder team

In 1975 Baldur Preiml became the head coach of the ÖSV team. With him came success. The competition was overtaken at a rapid pace and Austria had more than ten ski jumpers, Toni Innauer , Karl Schnabl , Alois Lipburger , Willi Pürstl , Reinhold Bachler , Hans Millonig , Edi Federer , Alfred Pungg , Rudi Wanner , Walter Schwabl and Hans Wallner, all of a sudden acted in the midst of the world's best. Overnight Austria had mutated into the number one ski jumping nation. Hans Wallner was part of this “miracle team” for 15 years. Above all, he was characterized by consistency. Because after all, Wallner was always among the top ten in the world in all these years. Feistritzer describes his greatest success as the team runner-up title, which he won with his teammates Armin Kogler , Hubert Neuper and Andreas Felder at the Nordic World Ski Championships in Oslo in 1982 .

End of career and new beginning

In 1984 Wallner ended his sporting career. Wallner still holds the record of having jumped in the A-team for more than 20 years. Then Wallner trained the Italian national ski jumping team.

Before he finished his active ski jumping career, he had discovered a new passion with model flying. As early as 1983 he began to build the first model aircraft himself. He has already made an international name for himself in this sport.

Hans Wallner is now an employee of the Villach State Hospital.
