The sports club Achomitz ( Slovene Športno Društvo Zahomc ) is a winter sports club in the Hohenthurn district of Achomitz . He is the owner of the Achomitz natural jumping facility and supports athletes in the disciplines of ski jumping , Nordic combined and cross-country skiing . The association maintains the bilingualism of the lower Gail valley .

The initiative to build the ski jump and subsequently to found the club goes back to the Ljubljana ski jumper and engineer Janez Gorišek , the Slovenian engineer Stanko Bloudek (builder of the Bloudkova Velikanka in Planica) and the Achomitzer Janko Wiegele. The latter has been the driving force behind the club for decades. In 1953 a 30 m hill was built and the club was registered. In 1962 a 60 m hill was built. In 1969, Sepp Gratzer was the first club jumper to become Austrian champions. The 1970s were when it the most successful phase at the Winter Olympics in 1976 for Karl Schnabl won gold and bronze. At the Nordic World Ski Championships in 1982 , Hans Wallner achieved silver in the team on the large hill. In 1994 the Nordic State Performance Center was set up in Achomitz, which has given the club an impetus as the top dog ever since . A girls group was set up and cross-country skiing and Nordic combined were included in the club's program. In 1998 a new clubhouse was built in the joint sports and fire station .
