Antenne West was a private radio and television broadcaster in Rhineland-Palatinate based in Trier . The program first went on air as "Radio 22" in 2001 after being licensed by the state center for private broadcasters in Rhineland-Palatinate. In 2009 broadcasting was stopped due to bankruptcy.

history

In 2000, Sven Herzog founded "Antenne West GmbH & Co. KG" as a broadcasting company and the radio program "Radio 22 Trier 88.4" was licensed.

In the following year, the marketing companies for advertising "Regie 1 Deutschland GmbH", the exclusive marketer of Radio Trier 22 GmbH & Co. KG in Germany, and "Regie 1 Sarl Luxembourg" for marketing in Luxembourg are founded. In 2002, Antenne West succeeded in taking over the overall marketing for RTL RADIO Luxembourg 93.3 97.0 in the marketing area Germany, Luxembourg, France and Belgium via a commercial agency agreement. Regie 1 subsequently sold more radio advertising seconds than all other radio stations in the Trier region combined. The overall marketing for Rockland Radio Trier 105.8, Bitburg 107.9 is added in 2003.

A television permit for the Trier region was obtained in 2005. This is followed by the establishment of "Trier 1 Television GmbH", which went on air in the cable networks Trier, Bitburg and Wittlich, among others. In the following year, it was also switched to all TV cable networks in Luxembourg (Coditel and Eltrona).

In 2006 the print tabloid magazine “Antenne West 90 seconds” was launched. The magazine, financed by advertising, was published up to September 2009 with a monthly print run of 10,000.

Together with RTL RADIO 93.3 97.0 director Holger Richter, Sven Herzog started the first radio for the entire greater region in December 2008. RTL RADIO changed the music color and produced the program again exclusively for the Eifel / Saar / Mosel / Hunsrück / Luxembourg / Lorraine and Belgium region.

In February 2009, Antenne West ended the marketing of RTL RADIO 93.3 97.0 and a legal dispute ensued over the admissibility of the termination. As a result, "Regie 1 Sarl Luxembourg", the former marketing agency for RTL RADIO 93.3 97.0 and Antenne West in Luxembourg, went bankrupt in October 2009, and "Antenne West GmbH & Co. KG" itself went bankrupt in November 2009 - as a result of the insolvency of "Regie 1 Deutschland GmbH", the former marketing agency of RTL RADIO 93.3 97.0 for Germany. Transmission in its previous form was discontinued and a transitional arrangement was implemented.

Range and program

The radio program could be received in the Trier region and in northern Saarland via VHF via relatively weak but numerous transmitter locations.

According to the state media authority, Antenne West broadcast a program for young listeners. The television program Antenne West TV could be received regionally in the cable network . The new program began on weekdays at 7:00 p.m. It was usually repeated every hour. A summary of the weekly program was shown on Saturday and Sunday. On the common satellite channel of TV Mittelrhein and wwtv , the repetition block of the television program could be received for one hour each day from 10 p.m. and from 4 p.m. the following day.

End and provisional transitional arrangement

Due to economic difficulties, the radio and television programs were suspended in November 2009. On November 26, 2009, the company's boss, Sven Herzog, filed for insolvency at the Trier district court under file number: 23 IN 201/09. Attorney Hans-A was appointed provisional insolvency administrator. Brewer ordered. The Koblenz public prosecutor's office investigated due to a criminal complaint by former employees against Herzog for possible bankruptcy delay and tax evasion. The charge of delaying bankruptcy was dropped. The prosecution's investigations into tax evasion did not lead to charges either.

On December 21, 2009, the State Center for Media and Communication (LMK) announced that "presumably from January 3, 2010 provisionally" the frequencies 88.4 MHz Trier, 94.7 MHz Wittlich and 87 , 8 MHz Welschbillig, an unmoderated music program in " Adult Contemporary " (AC) format.

In February 2010, the broadcaster's frequencies were put out to tender. Cityradio Trier , the local radio station for Trier & the Eifel-Moselle region, was subsequently awarded the contract. On November 13, 2010 he was able to start broadcasting on the three frequencies. A transition program was in place until then.

This transitional program contained news every hour from Monday to Friday from 6:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. and local information produced every half hour with a length of 1.5 to 3 minutes. The format ran under the name 884 Trier , was broadcast via the three stations mentioned and could thus be received in the city of Trier and the surrounding area.

The Landeszentrale für Medien und Kommunikation (LMK) Rhineland-Palatinate decided on this temporary transitional measure, as otherwise the local broadcasters in Rhineland-Palatinate would have suffered considerable disadvantages overall. The broadcast in Trier was part of a channel combination. For national advertising, if part of the advertising service fails due to the loss of channels, there is a risk that the marketing of the other channels will also be damaged. In addition, the media analysis (MA) began at the beginning of 2010 to determine the respective listener reach. The broadcaster to whom these frequencies are ultimately assigned by the LMK after a tendering process is also dependent on such continuous determination.

The frequency 101.7 MHz in St. Vith was put out to tender again in 2009 and regionally awarded to Radio 700 - Citystudio St. Vith. On November 15, 2009 at 11 a.m., the program went on air there.

The 105.1 MHz in Merzig was put out to tender in 2010 and awarded to the local radio station Radio Merzig . This started broadcasting on August 13, 2010 at 3:00 p.m. and broadcast until July 18, 2016. Then Radio Merzig ceased operations.
