history

Nordic skiing has a great tradition in Bærum, which goes back to 1868. The tradition of ski jumping begins in Bærum in 1928 when the Skuibakken was built. The Skuibakken was opened on March 18, 1928. Ten years after the opening, the first major renovation took place. 14,000 spectators came to the reopening of the ski jump.

The second major renovation took place in 1949 a year before the Norwegian Championship in 1950, which was held on the Skuibakken. At the end of the 1950s, plans came up to convert the Skuibakken into a ski flying hill . However, these were discarded and instead the last major renovation took place in 1962. During this renovation, the ski jump was converted into a large hill. Three years after the renovation, the next Norwegian Championships took place in Bærum. The Norwegian Championships also took place on the Skuibakken in 1968, 1971, 1975, 1979, 1985 and 1991.

In 1981 and 1983 the international ski association FIS organized two World Cup competitions on the Skuibakken. The first was won by the Canadian Horst Bulau and the second by the Austrian Armin Kogler . In the 1988/1989 season another World Cup jump should be held on the ski jack. This had to be canceled due to lack of snow. In 1991 the hill lost its FIS certificate, which meant that no more international competitions could be held on the hill. After losing the FIS certificate, the jumping operation on the Skuibakken was slowly stopped and finally the last competition was held in 1996, where the hill record of 122 m was set by the Norwegian Pål Hansen .
