Jiří Malec (born November 24, 1962 in Vlastibor ) is a former Czechoslovakian ski jumper .
Career
Malec made his debut in the Ski Jumping World Cup on March 23, 1985 . He already achieved his first World Cup points with 11th place on the normal hill in Štrbské Pleso . Despite this success, it took almost three years before he was back on the World Cup squad. It was not until the Four Hills Tournament in 1987/88 that he entered the World Cup again and again achieved a place within the points in the jumping in Garmisch-Partenkirchen with 10th place.
At the 1988 Winter Olympics in Calgary , Malec jumped to 24th place on the large hill. He surprisingly won the bronze medal on the normal hill and only had to admit defeat to Matti Nykänen and his compatriot Pavel Ploc . In the team competition he jumped to 4th place together with Ladislav Dluhoš , Pavel Ploc and Jiří Parma .
Four weeks after the Olympic Games, Malec achieved his first and only podium finish with third place in Meldal . Also in the 1988/89 World Cup season he regularly jumped to points and ended the season in 29th place in the overall World Cup standings. At the Nordic World Ski Championships in Lahti in 1989 , he reached 19th place on the large hill.
In the 1989/90 season he again took part in two World Cup competitions in Czechoslovakia, but ended his active ski jumping career on January 14, 1990 with jumping on his home hill in Liberec .
