In the following season 1987/88 he reached a total of 11 World Cup points and finished in 50th place in the overall standings.

At the 1988 Winter Olympics in Calgary , Lunardi reached 50th place on the normal hill and 45th place on the large hill.

The following season 1988/89 he started similarly weak as the previous season. Only in Chamonix , France , was he able to jump into the points for the first time this season, finishing 11th. In the Nordic World Ski Championships 1989 in Finland's Lahti Lunardi jumped at the normal hill on the 29th and on the large hill to 17th place. At the World Cup in Örnsköldsvik shortly after the World Championship, he was able to jump into the top ten for the first time in a World Cup competition with 4th place. For ski flying at the end of the season in Harrachov , he again jumped into the points. He finished the season with 19 points in 37th place in the overall World Cup standings.

The 1989/90 World Cup season began cautiously for Lunardi. However, he was able to jump into the ranking at the Four Hills Tournament for the first time and in the end reached 34th place in the overall ranking. He was also able to improve his performance in the World Cup and jumped on the podium for the first time on February 16, 1990 in Predazzo with a 3rd place. In Vikersund he reached the 9th place at the 1990 World Ski Flying Championships . A week later he finished second in Lahti, putting him on the podium again. He also succeeded in doing this in the second competition on the same hill. At the World Cup competition in Sollefteå , he jumped onto the podium again with 3rd place. However, it was his last jump into the top ten and also his last World Cup points win. At the end of the season, Lunardi finished 10th in the overall World Cup with 135 points.

After Lunardi was no longer successful in the World Cup from 1990, he jumped in the Continental Cup from 1991 , which was held for the first time. However, he remained unsuccessful in this series and ended his active ski jumping career in 1994 at the age of 26.
