Josef Heumann (born October 14, 1964 ) is a former German skier who was active in the disciplines of ski jumping and Nordic combined .

Career

On December 30, 1981, Heumann made his international debut in the ski jumping World Cup as part of the opening competition for the Four Hills Tournament 1981/82 in Oberstdorf . However, he was unsuccessful and only ended up in the lower midfield.

In 1984 and 1985 Heumann competed in three World Cup races as a Nordic combined athlete. He achieved his best result with the 7th place in the individual in the Swedish Falun . After two more top 15 placements in 1985, Heumann fully concentrated on his career as a special jumper.

From 1986 he started again in the ski jumping world cup . The Four Hills Tournament 1986/87 was unsuccessful, so that he did not take part in any further jumping in the 1986/87 World Cup season . It wasn't until December 13, 1987 that he started again in a World Cup competition in Lake Placid and surprisingly reached 4th place. The subsequent Four Hills Tournament 1987/88 went better. Among other things, he achieved a 6th place in Innsbruck .

At the 1988 Winter Olympics in Calgary , Heumann jumped from the normal hill to 31st and from the large hill to 36th place. In the team competition he achieved 6th place together with Andreas Bauer , Peter Rohwein and Thomas Klauser .

He started the 1988/1989 season with several top 10 placements. In the first two competitions he also achieved placements among the top ten. However, a good tour placement failed to materialize after he only finished 46th in the last competition in Bischofshofen .

At the Nordic World Ski Championships in Lahti in 1989 , he jumped from the normal hill to 33rd and from the large hill to 23rd place. The 1989/90 World Cup season started cautiously with changing results. When jumping in Oberstdorf as part of the Four Hills Tournament in 1989/90 he was able to achieve his best individual result of his career with 2nd place. At the end of the tour he finished in 7th place.

At the ski flying world championship in 1990 in Vikersund Heumann flew to 18th place. In the following two years he could rarely achieve good placements. Therefore, he also started in the Ski Jumping Continental Cup from 1991 , but remained unsuccessful there and ended his active ski jumping career in 1992.
