Günther Stranner (born April 26, 1967 in Gmünd ) is a former Austrian ski jumper .

Career

Stranner made his debut in the Ski Jumping World Cup as part of the Four Hills Tournament 1983/84 when jumping on January 4, 1984 in Innsbruck . At the Nordic World Ski Championships 1985 in Seefeld in Tyrol , Stranner reached 13th place on the normal hill and 26th place on the large hill. In the team event he won the silver medal behind the team from Finland together with Andreas Felder , Armin Kogler and Ernst Vettori . Shortly after the World Championship, Stranner took part in the Junior World Championship in Täsch on February 11, 1985 , where he won the bronze medal in the individual jumping on the normal hill. In the first World Cup competition of the 1985/86 season , on December 22, 1985, he made it into the World Cup points for the first time by finishing 7th on the normal hill in Chamonix . He was able to repeat this success several times during the season. He achieved his best placement of the season with 6th place in ski flying in Planica . He finished the season with 12 World Cup points in 46th place overall.

At the ski flying world championship in 1988 in Oberstdorf , he surprisingly came in 5th place.

At the Olympic Winter Games in Calgary in 1988, 20th place on the normal and large hill, and fifth in team jumping together with Ernst Vettori , Heinz Kuttin and Andreas Felder .

Four weeks after the Olympic Games, he made it onto the podium for the first time with third place at the World Cup on Holmenkollbakken in Oslo . At the end of the season he finished 32nd in the overall World Cup ranking with 26 points.

In the World Cup season 1988/89 he was able to increase his World Cup points of the previous season by one and ended the season, which was also his most successful, with 27 points in 31st place in the overall World Cup ranking.

In the following two years Stranner could only rarely achieve World Cup points and therefore ended his active ski jumping career after jumping in Bischofshofen on January 6, 1991.
